Wisconsin DNR Memorandum April 28th, 1998 Below is an internal memorandum to the Wisconsin DNR from Thomas "Skip" Sommerfeldt states: 1) "In light of recent trends of increased musky densities and declines in walleye populations in various waters, the controversy rages on whether there is a cause/effect relationship."
The Buris/Bozek study on the relationship has bias in its conclusion because: 2) "Majority of musky samples studies were small" and 3) The studies were in waters, "where the forage base may have already been impacted by years of heavy musky predation."
Why is it that Wisconsin biologists are concerned about this relationship but Minnesota DNR biologists dismiss the concern and cite the Buris study done in Wisconsin? Full Memo Below... |
