Bozek and Burri study of Muskellunge Diet

The MN DNR was asked at the local level what studies it relied on to show muskies don't eat walleyes.

This 1999 Bozek and Burri study from the Wisconsin DNR was provided. In part it concludes.

- Muskies do eat walleye but are "Less common in the diet. " P. 258

- Yellow Perch may be a common diet item due to abundance and they have similar habits. P. 264

- Walleyes are eaten less possibly because they are "not preferred" and possibly because they are "more capable of avoiding muskellunge. " P. 266

- The study concluded, "we urge fisheries personnel to carefully consider all ecological and economic factors when managing muskellunge. " P. 268

- Note: Thomas "Skip" Sommerfeldt assisted in this study and in comments and writings Mr. Sommerfeldt has stated this study should not be relied on to conclude muskies don't eat walleyes.   Wis. DNR Memo
